Communication is key in the operating room but also when socializing with the community. I feel it is important to know how to communicate with children, elderly people, and how to communicate on a professional level. Any miss communication, no matter the size, could eventually lead to a large detriment causing more problems.
As a Surgical Technologist its important to ensure that you can communicate clearly and effectively with the other team members and patients so no mistakes are made or misunderstood. You may hear a surgeon ask for an instrument quietly, or signal that he would like something. When a Surgical Technologist is unsure of what was asked for, it is important to speak up and clearly communicate any needs effectively.
I chose to showcase my clinical evaluation sheet. Section A3 shows how well I communicate clearly and effectively with other team members. I communicate by asking appropriate questions and relaying information when counting, assisting the physician and receiving additional supplies onto the field. Communication allows better patient care and overall safety for the team members and patient.
